Prior to that, RSS file formats (part of XML family file formats for Web syndication often used by news site and blogs) have been widely spread to major news organization to share the latest headlines and full text as well as multimedia contents. Nowadays, it is very common to search for RSS feeds on major sites, and with a feed reader or aggregator, it help user to check and scan RSS-enabled sites automatically, and inform user updated contents. An early PodCasting experimenter and PodCasting contributor, Kevin Marks on October 4 - 5, 2003, successfully demostrated how a script could download RSS enclosures to Apple's iTunes and then synchronize them onto an iPod. Since then, the idea of podcasting has been widely spread interest among amatuer bloggers, open-source developers, professionals, brodcasters, entrepreneurs as well as individual via the Internet.

In his article "Podcasting: Making Waves" (April 21, 2005), the Forbes.com columnist Sam Whitmore described podcasting as "in some ways is even more disruptive and exciting than blogging.". From A to Z, PodCasting not only penetrates the entertainment but also the higher education institution where a lecture session can be making into a podcast to be distributed to the students. So, as the digital audio player like an iPod can be as common as a Nokia handphone nowadays, everyone could afford to have it and the PodCasting culture will continue to grow. Meanwhile, we will also see the emerging of PhotoCasting, PictureCasting, Broadcatching and etc with the use of RSS file format.

For more information about the history and the technology of PodCasting, please reference Wikipedia's PodCasting.
Welcome to "All about Podcasting!", a community-driven blog created by Chung Loong, James - the Aquarian from the 80ies to share useful info with Podcasters and Listeners to create, distribute, review, find and comment on latest exciting podcasts.

Let's think about the following scenario. Have you ever considered being a host for a talk show? or a DJ for a radio station? Have you ever thinking of record your unique expressions, feelings, speeches, songs, series of drama and etc to be distributed publicly to your own group of fans? Yes, you do most of the time or at least you fantasied it before.

Thanks to the innovation of PodCasting today, and you don't really need to have the cool personality, great talent or nice voice like the commercial DJ to host your own "show". Anyone today with the right apparatus and "PodCasting Guide for Beginners", the dream to become a podcaster can be easily achieved. Clearly, PodCasting has changed the rules in the industry, anyone with all types of personality, talent and voice are welcome to express creativity.

In fact, many existing commercial radio producers are also tapping into the podcasting market. They podcasts huge array of exciting contents that can be easily subscribed, downloaded and played at listeners choice. As listener cannot be with the radio 24*7, he or she could miss part of the interesting radio program. He or she would then subscribe to the radio podcasts, receive the content automatically and listen to it at their own convenient time. Although the content can be played on any standard computer, listeners usually transfer the content to iPod or any other MP3 player.
Welcome to "All about Podcasting!", a community-driven blog created by Chung Loong, James - the Aquarian from the 80ies to share useful info with Podcasters and Listeners to create, distribute, review, find and comment on latest exciting podcasts.

It consists an array of technologies for creating, producing, managing, distributing and receiving PodCasts anytime via the model of publish and subscribe over Internet. What's so interesting is that it enables creative and talented people such as individual publishers to create self-produced radio show in a very economical and budget manner.

The publish and subscribe model in podcasting enables the podcaster (or publisher) to publish a list of self-produced podcasts (or programs) with the use of "feed"*. A listener who wishs to enjoy the podcast would have to subscribe to the feed by using podcasting software such as Apple's iTunes. The software will intelligently scan the subscribed feeds from time-to-time and download new podcasts automatically once it become available.

*Feed is a standard format widely used on the Internet for website content to be read in different format. RSS (Real Simple Syndication) is one of the feeds and it is the format used in podcasting.
Welcome to "All about Podcasting!", a community-driven blog created by Chung Loong, James - the Aquarian from the 80ies to share useful info with Podcasters and Listeners to create, distribute, review, find and comment on latest exciting podcasts.

What is PodCasting ?

When the two words: "broadcasting" & "iPod" being frankenized, it produced the blend word of "PodCasting". However, it does not mean that the act of podcasting will require an Apple's iPod or any portable MP3 player or any broadcasting event to be there.

So, what exactly is "PodCasting" all about? In simple term, podcasting is the act of production and distribution of digital contents (mostly MP3 audio nowadays) via the Internet with the use of Media RSS protocol to one's digital device such as iPod, MP3 player, computer and etc automatically.

Unlike conventional broadcasting media for e.g a radio talk show, a user has to wait for a specific time and be in a specific place with a radio to enjoy the show. With podcasting, listeners can control over the time and the place of the show, for e.g by allowing listeners to subscribe to a specific talk show and determine when the content of the show shall be delivered automatically to listeners' email, iPod, computer, portable player and etc.

Clearly and obviously, podcasting enables listeners to determine the content, the time and how they want to enjoy the show. Not only that, the wide availablity of podcasting software and apparatus also means anyone can be a PodCaster over the Internet. Podcast producers create and distribute the digital contents using RSS feeds and software like FeedForAll to create, edit, manage, publish RSS feeds and podcasts.

One of the famous software for podcast listners is Apple's iTunes, which enable listeners to find and view the contents of the podcast before deciding about listening it. It also enable listeners to set when and how the contents shall be delivered to the listeners.
Welcome to "All about Podcasting!", a community-driven blog created by Chung Loong, James - the Aquarian from the 80ies to share useful info with Podcasters and Listeners to create, distribute, review, find and comment on latest exciting podcasts.
